Meta: Elections should not be put in peril

The two main parties in the ruling coalition have a different stance at the prospect June 18th elections can be held without the Democratic Party. Just 24 hours after SP leader Edi Rama said his party was prepared to enter elections even as a sole contender, SMI chairman Ilir Meta gave a different message.

“You can inform everyone pluralism has started to be applied in Albania since December 12th, 1990”, Meta said, nevertheless confirming his message for the opposition ultimatums don’t serve their purpose. “We have to work all together for the elections to be excellent, and stay away from extreme positions that could have catastrophic and unwanted consequences for the country and especially for the future of these wonderful children”.

Meta spoke on the occasion of the inauguration of his childhood school in Tirana, invited by the socialist Mayor Erion Veliaj. The latter tried to calm tensions between the two parties, the latest clash being between Educations Miniser Lindita Nikolla and SMI MP Monika Kryemadhi.

“Every time you see politicians debating keep in mind they’re doing it to improve working results. When it comes to decisions, we make the right ones for the children of the city and country, for the next generations to have better conditions in Tirana and all over Albania”, Veliaj said.
