Meta: As speaker, I will respect regulation

In his first interview as Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta underlined that
his work will be based only on respecting the rules impartially and
without prejudices, leaving equal space to all parties.

“I will not try to advocate the opposition or the majority, but I will advocate the regulation, which has been approved through consensus just a few months ago by all political parties. I will try to have a constructive spirit and cooperate closely and without prejudices with all representatives of parliamentary groups, so that we can reflect through our representation in Parliament the European spirit that our citizens showed on the June 23rd elections by participating in an electoral process of European standards”, Meta declared.

According to Meta, the fact that he was voted with eight votes from the opposition, is another obligation for him for his position as Parliament Speaker.

“The fact that I received more votes than the current majority just obliges me more for having a constructive and comprehensive spirit in Parliament”, Meta underlined.

The Parliament Speaker emphasized that the new opposition should not boycott the Parliament, as they did in the last session.

“I want to believe that the new opposition will stay away from boycott. The Parliament needs patience, self-restraint, and certainly we cannot dissolve parties or the government or the opposition, just because we see certain issues from different views. But we must be patient to hear the political considerations of everyone, even when we don’t like them, because that’s how we will push our Parliament forward. I wish that everyone is focused on what should be done and what should be improved, so that we can really reach standards of other developed European countries, as our voters deserve”, Meta declared.

For Meta it is important for the Parliament to take a leading role in the democratization of the political life in Albania, offering the model of a peaceful discussion that first of all aims to develop the country by keeping in mind the mutual future, regardless of our political sides.
