“Tensions are raising in Western Balkans and the EU must calm the
situation”, declared the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
The Russian Foreign Minister said the situation will not escalate into an armed conflict, but he has a message for Albanians.
“I hope everyone understand that there should be no new armed conflict in Balkans. It has been shown in many cases that we don’t learn from history. However, I hope that everyone understand the need to avoid conflicts. The police forces of ethnic Albanians have no reason to be present in Northern Kosovo, where Serbian ethnics live”, he said.
According to Lavrov, the EU should engage to calm down the situation and use its influence to implement the agreements reached between Prishtina and Belgrade.
The Russian Foreign Minister gave this comment during the annual conference with journalists, which are held for the annual results of the Ministry he leads.
As for the placement of NATO troops in Baltic countries, he says it is a bad idea, result of a weak job by the NATO intelligence services.
