The Germen Director for South-Eastern Europe, Christian Hellbach, said for Deutschewelle that Western Balkan citizens rightfully expect their living conditions to be improved through an EU approaching process.
According to Hellbac, one of the main issues of the Berlin Process is to offer support in this context. Intensified political and economic cooperation in the region has given a new dynamic to the approaching with the EU, and will increase population’s welfare. The high-level Geman official notes that there has been progress in the sectors of infrastructure development, trade, youth exchange and scientific cooperation.
The German Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, announced that the German commitment will be intensified.
“But we can only support Western Balkan. The transformation of the state, society and economy is a condition for the EU approach, and that should be realized by the own countries. That’s why reforms are needed”, Hellbach said.
