The German government reacted for the first time regarding the situation
created in Albania, after the protests of the opposition. The reaction
came from the Spokesperson for the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

Steffen Seibert was asked about the Parliamentary boycott of the opposition, and the declarations of Lulzim Basha that he had support from foreign representatives to bring down what he called a corrupted government of Edi Rama, and build a technical government which is supposed to stay in power until elections.

To the question “is the German federal government one of the foreign representatives who support Basha’s claims”, Seibert answered by saying that he is not aware of this declaration of the Albanian opposition leader.

“The German Federal Government supports the erforms of the Albanian government. As you know, Albania has started an all-inclusive reform of the judiciary. Germany assists and supoprts this process of the judiciary reform, by even sending German judges to the EURALIUS mission. It is on the interest of the Albanian people, most of whom want the reform, to have this process implemented. For this reason, it is important that all political forces work together in Parliament. The German Federal Government appeals all political parties in Albania to soften the way they reach agreements. Appeals for violence that are heard time after time, should not be one of the instruments used for imposing controversial political positions”, Seibert said.
