Before the visit in Croatia and Serbia, Merkel has clearly said that
there is no European perspective for the region without the efforts of
all parties, regardless the wounds of the past.

“Dialogue with Kosovo should start over”, says Merkel. Her weekly message is mostly concentrated on Croatia and Serbia.

Croatia has closed this summer the EU membership talks.

“For this reason I will speak the the Croatian Prime Minister for continuing the process of ratification by other member countries and for the duties that lie ahead for Croatia, until the full EU membership”, she declared.

She also paid a lot of attention to the visit in Serbia.

“Naturally I am very happy for the visit in Serbia, because our countries have good mutual relations. Serbia has achieved considerable progress in the last months and years in the road towards EU. This includes the arrest of the war crime suspects, Mladic and Hadjic, and their extradition to the Court of Hague”, Merkel declared.

“On the other hand, there are still tensions between the Republic of Kosovo and that of Serbia. For this reason, it will be mu duty to make clear that the dialogue with Kosovo should restart. There is no European perspective for this region, if all countries do not make all efforts towards this, although the wounds of the past are still very deep”, she emphasized
