The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, expressed her reserves regarding
the European Union membership negotiations and Albania in her first
government speech.
Merkel stated that Albania cannot hope for membership talks yet. “Initially, more laws are needed for the reforms”, declared the head of the Christian-Democrats in her first declaration in Berlin.
“The European Union summit will review this case this Thursday and Friday”, she explained.
Germany and the European Union will continue supporting Albania for the European Union candidate status, and will help the government to fight organized crime.
Merkel, same as the Commission of the European Union, valued the visible progress of Serbia in the process.
“It is important to hold the first conference with Serbia this January, for the membership talks”, Merkel declared.
This step will value the reforms in the former-Yugoslav republic, and will improve the relations with Kosovo. The membership process will require several years.
