Meeting rules change, Macovei: “Don’t transfer Tirana’s political war to EP”

The Albanian delegation in Brussels had no purpose to damage the
country’s image, but to reject the propositions of political
adversaries. However, the behavior confused many foreign members of the
European Parliament and assistants reported to non–present MPs
everything that took place.

Although the meeting showed the need to change the regulation and procedures of the community, Chairwoman monica Macovei said it marked progress compared to the meeting held in Tirana.

“Don’t transfer the political fight from your country to the European Parliament. This goes for the member countries and Albania in this case. The dialogue is much better this time. We proposed some amends for the procedure rules, which are related to the voting, the time to speak, the way how decisions are taken in the forum, issues that are necessary for the meeting discipline, so that the meeting goes better. The people understood that to let people speak more they should reduce the time they take to speak. When I say three minutes and it goes more, to four, five or even six minutes, the members of the same party cannot speak anymore, although I let them intervene. The problem here is that we have a limited time and as politicians we should be able to give the message in a short time. This is also for the people who watch us from home, not only in this meeting. It doesn’t have to take one hour to explain something. We must discipline ourselves to speak within 1 to 5 minutes. I insist on the fact that it is better to hear more people. I would like to hear 10 people giving 10 thoughts. This is what we want”, Macovei declared.

After the refusal of Eduard Kukan, the European Popular Parties are unable to replace Chairwoman Macovei until the nex tyear. The Romanian lawmaker, who had initially requested the Committee with Serbia, plans to stay by the end of this legislation of the EP-Albanian delegation members will not request her removal.

“The regulation says that even if the political group has changed, and I just joined the group of conservatories and reformers, I can keep the post as Chairwoman of the Committee until the 5-year mandate expires”, Macovei declared.
