British Ambassador in Tirana, Fiona McIlwham, declared that successful
elections, performed with professionalism and integrity, are vital for Albania’s European integration. The British diplomat underlined that these
elections are an important opportunity for the Albanians to be heard and
to chose their local administration.

“The elections are a good opportunity for the state officials, the politicians, the commissioners and the Police to work together and support their citizens in a transparent and positive electoral process. These elections are an opportunity for Albania to improve its growth as a democratic European country. I believe that Albania and the Albanians must make good use of this opportunity”, says the press release.

While OSCE ambassador in Tirana, Eugen Wollfarth, during an interview with the “Albanian Daily News”, underlines the importance of these elections, declaring that Central Election Commission should put the interest of the country before any political pressure.

Wollfarth declared that OSCE has given technical assistance to the Police, including satellite cell phones for improving communication in remote areas. As for the Election Code amendments, OSCE ambassador realistically says that “parties undertake always bold promises, but then, after neglecting and taking last moment political agreements, they try again to establish better procedures”.

OSCE ambassador declared that parties should start preparing during this summer for the procedures that will improve the Election Code,

“After this summer, we expect all political parties, I emphasize, all political parties, to come together for a new reform. The long history of failed elections in Albania should finish once and for all”, he added.
