Only five days before the June 23rd elections, the European Union
ambassadors accredited to Tirana were summoned in a reporting meeting by
the Chairwoman of the Election Observing Mission of OSCEODIHR, Conny
McCormack.
The meeting held at the European Commission’s offices in Tirana started at 11:00, while only 75 minutes later McCormack was seen leaving the embassy but without giving any details about the meeting, which continued for 60 other minutes in presence of the ambassadors.
The main discussion topic were the June 23rd elections and the pre-election situation, but despite the media interest, none of the Ambassadors have accepted to comment what has been discussed in the meeting that lasted more than two hours.
The meeting took place one day after the declarations of the Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, and the High Representative for the Foreign Policy at the European Union, Catherine Ashton, who underlined the importance of these elections in Albania’s European path.
“The Parliamentary elections in Albania represent an important test for the democratic institutions and Albania’s path to the European Union. We are following the preparations very closely and we encourage the correction of the deficiencies found in the OSCEODIHR temporary report”, says the declaration of Ashton and Fule.
