The mayor of Kuçova in central Albania has been summoned to be questioned in the special anti-corruption prosecution for a mistake committed 24 years ago, when he crossed the Greek border illegally, the authorities announced today.
The prosecution received the defendant Kreshnik Hajdari, who is accused of concealing a sentence from the Court of Ioannina, Greece, which at the time issued against him the measure of reprimand.
In 1999, a 17 years old Kreshnik Hajdari was given a re-education order as a minor. SPAK prosecution communicated to the mayor the accusation of falsification of forms, one day after the CEC decided not to terminate his mayoral mandate.
“He crossed the border illegally and they punished him with social reprimand. There is no communicated decision, no previously declared decision, but even if it was true, had he declared it, there would be no consequence”, said the lawyer of Theodhor Sollaku.
For the precedent of not declaring the previous convictions, the SPAK special prosecution has investigated and then the court also found the mayor of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismaili, guilty. The mayor was sentenced to 40 hours of community work and did not appeal the case.
After serving the sentence, which, as Top Channel learns, he carried out working at the Fier Historical Museum, the mayor is not considered convicted in the registers, but still has the obligation to declare this in decriminalization forms.
Albanian mayors remain the most investigated officials by the SPAK prosecution, especially for tender abuses. Edison Memolla and Beleri are now under trial for election corruption.
Currently, the former mayor of Durrës Vangjush Dako, the former mayor of Kukës Safet Gjici, the former mayor of Bulqiza Lefter Alla, the elected mayor of Himare Fredi Beleri are being held in prison.
Whereas former mayor of Fushë Arrëz, Fran Tuci, was convicted. The mayors of Tropoja, Kamza, Rrogozhina, Vlora and Jorgo Goro of Himara were reported and under proceedings.
