Mayor of Hungarian commune: “Let’s put fences on borders”

Kosovars cross the border through a small mountainous village. The Mayor of the Asotthalom commune, Laszlo Toroczka, is considered as their most radical part. He says that immigrants leave waster materials behind and sometimes they light fires. He says this could be dangerous in the winter because he claims having seen people dying and the media say nothing about it.

“We have a good example from the American government, which has built a fence in the border with Mexico. Another example is that of Bulgaria, in the border with Turkey. We could do the same”, Toroczka says.

However, these solutions do not seem very appropriate in Europe. Hungary has closed the border units and the border can be crossed very easily.

“I think that this is not a normal situation, and I do not understand where is the Hungarian and Serbian police. I have discussed with some Mayors in Serbia, nad they told me that illegal immigrants from Kosovo are Serbian citizens and can freely move in the Serbian territory, and that’s why they cannot stop them in their border.

The Hungarian police refuses to give information regarding these cases. Immigrants seem to not do much of a resistance, since they know that it is easier in the EU and sometimes the police in those countries could be used as transportation by them.
