The Democratic Party has sued the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj for what it described as repeated slander against the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.
The criminal lawsuit argues that “Erion Veliaj, as the leader of the ruling SP campaign for Tirana has made 3 accusations, slandering the political opponent, in order to damage the image of Mr. Basha”.
Sources from the Court of Tirana inform that the lawsuit considers as slander 3 statements of Erion Veliaj in relation to Basha:
• The chairman of the Democratic Party gained 4 houses during the earthquake and pandemic period
• The chairman of the Democratic Party has benefited financially during the disaster period
• The chairman of the Democratic Party has built additional residential floors without a permit.
“These untruths were said deliberately in order to damage the reputation and the image, given that Lulzim Basha is the chairman of the Democratic Party in opposition and Erion Veliaj, leader of the SP election campaign for the Tirana region. He uses these defamatory statements to gain political credit in front of the citizens, both for himself and for the Socialist Party”, it is said in the defamation lawsuit filed against Erion Veliaj.
