Mat, old bridge being damaged

05/07/2011 12:15

The old bridge over the Mat River, built in 1930, has been severely
damaged in the last years. The 80-year-old road survived to the times,
but not to the people who have started to destroy it in the last years, by ripping off its parts. The legs of the bridge are being
uncovered by people who take solid inert materials from the river to use
it for construction purposes.

The bridge has been declared as a culture monument for its specifications and the time when it was built. 10 years ago it underwent a restoration process, but unidentified persons have ripped off the iron bars to sell them as scrap materials.

The bridge was functional until some times ago, but after the construction of the new road and new bridges, it has been closed for motor vehicles.
