Thousands of ethnic Albanians were part of the protest organized in
Skopje today. With red and black flags and banners appealing for
justice, they opposed the sentencing of the six Albanians who are
accused for the murder of five Macedonians.
The protesters were not allowed to get close to the Court by the police that had blocked the road. Protesters and relatives of the defendants for the first time presented a request in front of the media.
“We want the defendants to be released and get compensation. The Prosecutor and the Judge should be discharged and prosecuted for abusing with their power. We demand the Interior Minister to resign, for misusing her official post, by declaring the verdict right after they were arrested. We demand an immediate release of the Skopje and Tetovo protesters”, declared Daim Luci, one of the protesters.
“We are protesting with the citizens, and we are grateful to receive their support. We will continue to protest for our rights, because we have no other means”, declared Bedri Ajdari, relative of one of the defendants.
The protest ended calmly, and this time it had political personalities, such as Hysni Shaqiri, the Head of the Struga Commune, Zijadin Sela, the publicist Kim Mehmeti, the European Box Champion, Nuri Seferi, and other noted intellectuals.
Another protest was announced today by Macedonians, who oppose the demands of ethnic Albanians, but it was canceled.
