Since March, when the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic was reported in Albania, the prices of masks, disinfectants and alcohol have continually changed, weighing heavily on the pockets of citizens.
The price of such a mask in different pharmacies of the capital varies from 20 to 50 lek a piece.
While gel and alcohol disinfectants for hands varies from 150-200 ALL. According to pharmacists all this abuse is caused by the panic effect of the pandemic.
According to pharmacist Erisa Petro, the demand for masks increased significantly since it became mandatory by law.
“The demand for masks is high, especially now that it has become mandatory. The price is 20 lek for one, or 800 lek for a package with 50 such. This price was unchanged since before the pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic, we did not have the merchandise that is why of the price abuses “, says Petro.
For some citizens the price of 20 or 30 lek is too high, for this reason they have chosen to use a textile mask.
“We buy textiles because we cannot afford these others. We wash it and keep it for a long time, it is economical “, an interviewee confesses.
