The Democratic Party MP, Mark Marku, declared on Top Channel’s “Shqip”
that the recent government changes damage the majority and the
Democratic Party before the elections of the next year.
In this exclusive interview with Rudina Xhunga, Marku spoke about the situation within the Democratic Party and explains why it needs to be reformed and more democratic.
“The political parties in Albania need to be more democratic. Speaking about a political party in Albania is like a sacrilege. I cannot accept the fact that 20 years after the fall of the dictatorship, the political parties have so much lack of debate. It is time to open a political debate within the Democratic Party. There has been a conflictual political situation that makes it very difficult to hold a critical stance within the party. When the parties are in a conflict, a critical stance within the party would be considered as betrayal. There has been discipline inside the DP that used to be necessary, but now it is damaging”.
As regards the presidential election, Marku said that he was a strong supporter of a political candidacy, and that Jozefina Topalli would have been a decent President.
“I have supported the election of a political President, and I have supported Mrs. Topalli, based on her political career. A woman that represents the Albanian conservatory right wing”, he declared.
As for the Presidential election, Marku declared that it was not serious, and that the two first candidates were people that were involved in the communist regime and that they could be easily blackmailed, saying that the responsibility for them falls on Berisha and Meta, the leaders of the ruling coalition parties. As for Nishani, he says that his values will be presented by him during the mandate.
Marku felt disappointed by the outgoing President, Bamir Topi, once an important figure of the Democratic Party, saying that he did not fulfill the expectancies of the institution.
When asked about the elections of 2013, Marku declared that this is mission impossible for the democrats, without making a reform. For this he blames the consumption of the current DP figures in the last eight years, and the need for a deep change in its leadership.
Marku criticized the system used by the political parties in Albania that according to him resembles to military formations, based on the discipline that the members have towards the leadership. Marku considers the DP a consumed party that needs to be reformed, as many other right winged parties in Europe.
As for the government changes made by the Socialist Movement for Integration, a left winged Party that secured the government of Sali Berisha, he says that they offend the Democratic Party, the Prime Minister and the members. He says that the DP and the SMI were acting as each of them had one government of their own, and this is one of the reasons why he thinks that the DP should be reformed.
The Democratic MP declared that the discontent of the Democratic Party electorate can be felt, and this is something that should not be ingonred.
When asked about his political future, Marku says that whoever has spoken against the Democratic Party leadership, has been pushed away in other political formations, or they have disappeared from the political scene. He says that he wants to stay with dignity and leave with dignity, since the political engagement is not an employment for him.
Flamur Noka’s appointment as Interior Minister, for Marku is not the change that the government needs before the elections. He says that the government has people who are not motivated for the work that they do, and that are characterized by conformism.
As for Ilir Meta, Marku declared that he is considered guilty by the people for the corruption charges, although justice did not sentence him. He said that Berisha’s priority is power, not the material part, and that he doesn’t believe that attacks made against him for corruption.
Marku blamed the current President, Bamir Topi, for the situation of the justice system, together with the High Council of Justice Vica Chairman, who was involved in political activity. The Democratic MP declared that the success of the new party that is believed to be led by President Topi, depends on the errors that will be made or avoided by the Democratic Party.
He added that war against corruption has not been very efficient and the justice system remains problematic. As for the future, Marku said that he will continue giving his contribution to the Democratic Party, with a new plan for how this political force must be presented in front of the electorate in the next elections.
Marku concluded his speech by giving an opinion about two issues of public interest in the recent news headlines, such as the trees that were cut in the Artificial Lake Park and the referendum about the urban waste. Marku declared that he is in favor of the referendum, and he declared that if the trees were cut illegally, this is something that cannot be tolerated.
