Manufacturing factories warned today of a national protest, for the preservation of 75 thousand jobs, in case the state will not temporarily support it to get out of the deep crisis.
Businessmen and representatives of the workers said that they have gathered in Kruja, north of Tirana, to discuss the situation and the steps they will take in cooperation with the unions.
“The national protest was requested by the employees themselves as they are losing their jobs. We are talking about the clothing and footwear manufacturing sector, which has over 75,000 employees in the region and is in a serious crisis. Businesses have a lack of liquidity and the inability to pay the obligations arising from their activity. The exchange rate, the increase in costs and mostly the indifference on the part of the government to sit at the table, are the main causes. In Kruja there are no other economic activities, where will these employees go if they leave their jobs?”, asked entrepreneur Edvin Prençe.
The consequences of the crisis were felt at the beginning of the year with the closing of jobs in several subjects and non-receipt of salaries on time for others.
“We are talking about a pandemic in the sector, only in the last 48 hours there were 1100 lost jobs, mostly women, mothers. If this sector is blocked, they will have problems from banking, transport, raw materials”, he added.
Manufacturers show that they are facing many problems, while they demand the fiscal support of the government as a necessity.
This sector requires fiscal facilities and subsidies through the implementation of a plan against unemployment and poverty, according to officials.
