“The global Covid-19 pandemic has erased about 126.5 million euros from manufacturing exports for the first 10 months of this year, which is also one of the sectors most affected by the crisis.”
Representatives of the manufacturing sector explain that the worst of the crisis has been felt mainly in companies that produce fashion clothing for the foreign market. As an alternative to survive the situation, many of them have changed the production line, orienting it towards medical clothing.
Entrepreneur Florian Zekja: The situation is difficult. We have external demand and are currently producing disposable medical clothing. We have also given up masks as countries are producing them themselves. But if we continue at this pace we will have problems with keeping enterprises open.”
But the change in the rate of production has been accompanied by additional costs for the tailoring industry.
In such conditions, the representatives of the sector appeal for support from the government to promote the production ‘Made in Albania’, as they add that concrete discussions have started between the parties.
Florian Zekja: We are holding discussions with the Finance and Entrepreneurship Protection agency for some support packages to make possible what we call ‘Made in Albania’ merchandise coming to market along with our products. We are discussing third guarantee loans but the criteria for this have not been defined yet.
