Manjani: Parliament must discuss the Bank of Albania

Ylli Manjani, vice leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration,
said in an interview for Top Channel that the involvement of the
Parliament is unavoidable after the theft of 7 million USD from the Bank
of Albania.

“The Governor should have resigned for moral reasons. He is still in time to do this. The Parliament must take measures and we must understand that there are some different procedures. The resignation is a personal decision based on good will, while the monitoring and verification procedures that might end even with the discharging of the Governor and the Council of the Bank is another procedure, another duty”, Manjani declared.

Should the law for the Bank of undergo any changes after the problems that have been found?

“If the law of the Bank is faulty and it cannot create a restart for the Bank of Albania and for the financial security of the country, then it certainly deserves to be changed”, the SMI vice chairman declared.

“There are credible reports to prove that the divident that the Albanian Bank has deposited to the Albanian State through the years has kept dropping, while the profit of second-hand banks has increased. This can happen only because of the luxury expenses made in the Bank. I think that the Bank should have saved 10 million EUR each year, and this was an exclusive duty of the Supervisory Council. Let’s suppose that the Governor goes crazy. The Supervisory Council has the duty to limit the luxury spending. At least 10 million EUR should have been saved each year”, declared the SMI representative.

Manjani is not an MP, and he suggests the Parliament to investigate the bank transactions through the years, such as the sale of the Dajti Hotel, because these issues might show the malfeasance of the Bank.
