Majority insists to appoint Constitutional Court Judges after reform

The President of Albania, Bujar Nishani, met this Tuesday the heads of
the Parliamentary Groups. This comes after publishing a list with 15
candidates who were running for the vacancies at the Constitutional
Court, after the termination of the mandates of judges Vladimir Kristo
and Sokol Berberi.

Gramoz Ruci from the SP arrived first at the Presidency. After 15 minutes with President Nishani, Ruci left the building without releasing any comment for the media.

Sources from inside the meeting said for Top Channel that Gramoz Ruci expressed the stance of the majority through a letter sent to the President.

The Head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Petrit Vasili, said that since we are close to the Justice Reform, the judges should be appointed after it. But his Democratic Party counterpart thinks the opposite.

“The President brought the candidacies. We have no preference or opposition for these names, since the appointing criteria were implemented. We need to implement the laws in effect, as long as the justice reform has not passed yet”, Paloka said.

Now it is up to President Bujar Nishani. Will he test the determination of the majority or will he continue the conflicts by appointing the judges, who will most probably be rejected by Parliament’s votes.
