The President of Macedonia, Gjorgje Ivanov, asked the USA, EU, NATO and
Turkey to condemn and reject the platform of Albanian parties, since he
considers it dangerous for his country.
Brussels and Washington made their stances clear regarding the situation. Both US Ambassador, Jess Baily, and EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, said that the President should respect the democratic principles and allow the majority of Parliament to form a government.
However, Ivanov answers with the most surprising way. Through a letter sent to the US President, Donald Trump; the Chairman of the European Council, Donald Tusk; the NATO General Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg; and to the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he says that condemning the platform drafted in Tirana by PM Edi Rama should be the best way to overcome the crisis in Macedonia.
The platform of the Albanian parties foresees the usage of Albanian as second official language. This option was accepted by the Zoran Zaev’s LSDM, which reached an agreement with the Albanian political parties.
“I expect you to condemn the flagrant meddling with Macedonia’s interior affairs. I expect you to send a powerful message for not changing the borders of Balkan, and to reaffirm the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the countries in the region”, the Macedonian President said.
