Macedonian minorities oppose recognition request in Albania from Bulgarian ones

Bulgaria wants its minorities in Albania, but they were opposed not only
by the Albanian Foreign Minister, but also by Macedonians.

Vasil Sterjoski from the Macedonian Association “Sonte” said that there is no Bulgarian minority in Albania. “This is a deformation of history. In Prespa, Gora and Golloborda, where there are claims for Bulgarian minority, there is only a Macedonian minority. This request of is part of the Greater Bulgaria”, he said.

For the moment, this chapter is closed also for Minister Bushati.

“In 1945, when the first census was held, and until 2011, when the last census was done, there has been no other minority listed besides the minorities that are listed in this law”, said Ditmir Bushati.

But again, representatives of Bulgarian associations demand their minority to be recognized.

“As representatives of the Bulgarian minority in Albania, we express our request based on the laws of Albania, facts, history, and based on the volunty and desire of our citizens. We want a recognition of the Bulgarian minority in Albania”, said Ervin Taluri, vice chairman of the Association for Bulgarian-Albanian friendship.

But Macedonians launch even harsher accusations.

“New fake Bulgarian associations were made up in Albania, giving Bulgarian passports. Not only Macedonians but some Albanians as well are turning Bulgarian just to travel to Europe”, declared Vasil Sterjoski.

Albania wants to stay away from this conflict.

“We prefer to not be part of identity matters, which are matters that don’t belong to us. It is a theater played between other countries”, Bushati declared.
