Macedonia, Zaev: “We can form a government in Parliament and bypass Ivanov”

The LSDM leader, Zoran Zaev, said for “Irish Times” that he may ask the
Parliament to form the new government by bypassing President Ivanov, who
created a stalemate by not mandating Zaev to form a government with
Albanian parties.
“We wanted to have an official approval from the President, but this doesn’t matter now”, Zaev is quoted. “Every normal country has a president with just ceremonial powers. He is obliged to give power to the majority of lawmakers in Parliament. Ivanov found the most ridiculous reason to refuse it. The tradition is that you ask the father for his daughter’s hand, but you can get married even if he refuses”, the LSDM leader declared.
Zaev said that the purposes of Russia’s friends in Macedonia are not positive. The recent declaration of Moscow, according to Zaev, proves the Russian support.
After an urgent meeting, the VMRO-DPMNE leadership instructed their party to keep fighting the attempts to change Macedonia and turn it into what they call “bi-national country”.
The conservatives keep demanding new elections, saying LSDM is victim of a blackmail that will have a high price for the country.
“The criminal leadership of this party is ready to accept everything just to avoid criminal charges. This is why Zaev accepted the platform of Tirana”, VMRO said.
LSDM answered by requesting Ivanov to mandate Zaev to create a new government, and said that the blocking was not constitutional.
