Students of the Kirili and Metodi University in Skopje, are still
enlarging the so-called autonomous academic area, by bringing the number
of blocked faculties to 12. Since Wednesday, lessons have eben
interrupted at the Faculty of Architecture and Construction too.

Students have blocked the spaces of these faculties and have warned to stay inside until the government agrees to pass a new law for the higher education, which doesn’t include the involvement of the government.

“The new law for the higher education should include the real requests of students. We want a decision for saving the autonomy of universities, which in the past has been violated. We want a more clear implementation of the Bologna system”, a student declared.

The initiative for blocking the faculties has been spread to the city of Manastir too. The first meeting between students and the Ministry of Education will be held this Thursday. In an effort to find a solution for the situation, the students are skeptical. They do not believe that the government is interested to resolve the problem and accept their requests.

“We are here to show that our initiative for blocking the faculties is spreading quickly. We are here to show that we are not naive and that we will not withdraw until our requests are fulfilled. We are here to tell the government that they will not be able to avoid us for planning the policies for the higher education”, a female student declared.
