The Special Public Prosecution in macedonia filed 17 new charges against 94 individuals and 7 companies.
The Special Chief Prosecutor, Katica Janeva, demanded the arrest of 18 persons, including veteran politicians.
The Special Prosecution also demanded for the VMRO-DPMNE leader, Nikola Gruevski, and his closest allies, to be detained.
Gruevski is accused of having criminal ties, abusing with financial means for electoral campaigns and damaging the electoral right.
Gruevski’s collaborators that have been also charged are former Interior Minister, Gordana Jankulovska and Martin Protogjer, Kiril Bozhinovski and Mile Janakievski.
The Prosecution has also demanded the arrest of the former Minister of Culture, Elizabeta Kanceska Mileska, and of the Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, Vladimir Peshevski.
The Prosecution has also targeted the former Secret Police Chief, Sasho Mijalkov, one of the most controversial names in Macedonia during the past years. He is wanted for illegal spying.
Gruevski reacted after the announcement and said the Special Prosecution is acting like an office owned by the LSDM. Gruevski accused the Special Prosecution of trying to destroy his party and of losing impartiality.
Gruevski is accused of having abused with funds for elections; for demolishing the building of “Fiat Canovskit-Kosomos”; the “Trajectory” case, regarding the construction of highways; and for the purchase of a 580,000 Mercedes. If found guilty, Gruevski risks up to 22 years in prison.
