Appeals from the international community and internal politicians were
not enough to make the President of Macedonia, Gjorgje Ivanov, change
opinion about the post-electoral situation.
The Macedonian President declared that the obstacles that prevent him from mandating the forming of the new government have not been resolved yet. He publically appealed citizens to reject the “Albanian Platform” agreed by Zoran Zaev, which, according to him, puts Macedonian interests at risk.
“Since I am the President, I decide to not mandate a person or a party that puts at risk our state, the integrity and sovereignty of Macedonia. We will not withdraw from these basic values”, he said.
A number of European diplomats visited Skopje in midst of the political crisis, with clear messages for resolving it. The message of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Neighboring was reinforced by the OSCE General Secretary and the Special Envoy of the German Foreign Ministry for Southeastern Europe and Turkey.
Zaev, in the meanwhile, unfolded his government program and said that he will ask the Parliament to authorize his government, even without the Presidential decree.
The organizers against the “Albanian platform” say they will protest in all Macedonian cities, and they seem convinced that they will receive wide support from citizens.
