Kosovo is ready for the local elections. Around 5000 police officers will be on duty this Sunday.
The ballot counting center is now ready, while the Kosovo president, Atifete Jahjaga, appealed for free and democratic elections, underlining that any effort for manipulation will be harshly punished.
In the message sent to citizens, the President says that the election progress is vry important and guarantees the path towards the European integration.
“The elections of November 3rd are important for the citizens of Kosovo and they guarantee the territorial integrity of our country. The elections are our test of democracy, and they guarantee the road to the European integration, towards a better life for all Kosovo citizens. The honest, democratic and free elections open our perspective as a country and society, and guarantee the construction of our state on democratic principles, especially the rule of law”, declaerd the Kosovo President, Atifete Jahjaga.
She said that the participation of Serbs in these elections, especially the Northern Serbs, would guarantee a legal representation of the local institutions.
The president underlined that the right of every citizen to vote and to be voted is guaranteed by the Constitution, and that infringing this right, same as infringing the free vote, is punishble by law.
“The vote of the Kosovo citizens is untouchable and free. Every effort to touch or manipulate this right of the Kosovo citizens will be punished. Violations are intolerable, becaue they hamper our path towards the construction of a Democratic state, free and equal with all other states everywhere in Europe”, the President declared.
The President made these comments after meeting with the Central Election Commission leader, Valdete Daka, and with the main leaders of justice and public order institutions.
