Hundreds of friends and relative members gave the final farewell to
Lirak Bejko, the 47-year-old who set himself on fire during a hunger
strike against the government’s failure to pay the compensation to
former political prisoners.
The homage was held at the Integration Institution of the former Politically Persecuted. His fellow strikers asked the protest to continue.
Ndreca was one of the closest friends who said that his sacrifice was not in vain, but the spiritual revolt for this injustice had just started.
The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, was also present in the homage, followed by a group of Socialist MPs. Rama accused the government of making a hell out of the Albanians’ life through an arrogant and destructive force.
Rama writes on Twitter that the “Farewell to Lirak, among people whose every hopes have been killed in these 22 years just for taking their votes. Unforgettable the image of the two orphan girls, whose father who survived the communist hell perished in the hell of disappointments. It’s impossible to forget the mother and the wife of the late, who were separated by the destructive force of the arrogance of this administration. May his soul rest in the peace that he was unable to find in life, and may his act be compensated through a dignifying reflection”.
The Red and Black Alliance and MP Oketa accused the government.
Under the Albanian hymn, his friends and other strikers accompanied the body to the last home, considering his act as that of a hero of democracy.
