Lifeguards trained, not hired

40 young men and women were trained and certified in Montenegro to be the first lifeguards in Albanian beaches.

The government built watch towers on beaches, through the National Coastline Agency, but two years later, no one has been hired and the towers have remained empty.

“There are no lifeguards. Parents can take care of their children but something could happen at any moment”, say holiday-makers.

The tourists season is not at its peak yet, and there have already been several deaths.
