Work on the highway Levan-Tepelenë has been halted by hundreds of workers and specialists who have been unpaid for eight months.

Workers and representatives of several construction firms protested in front of the contracting company.

They demanded their unpaid salaries of eight months.

The irritated workers and representatives said that they will not continue the works without being paid. According to them, the total sum varies from 500 thousand to 1 million Euros.

“The reasons are the pretexts they present. The sub-contractual company says that “Todini” has to pay. “Todini” says that the state hasn’t paid them. A common worker cannot know where the obstacles are. A solution must be given, either from the companies or from the state”, the worker declared.

“It is not the first time that the works have been blocked. We have been blocking them time after time, for one month and a half. The contractual company doesn’t pay the sub-contractual firms and the consequence is the blocking of the works”, another one said.

The protesters said that they will not allow other firms to replace them for continue the works without paying the eight month obligations.

The road construction tender was won by the “Todini” company and “Alpine”.

The works have started in 2008. This road is 70 km long, but after three years, not a single kilometer has been paved.
