Official data from the Ministry of Finances show that the crisis has
decreased the number of large active businesses that contribute in the
state budget.
An official report of the Ministry of Finances shows that the number of companies that paid income tax fell with 5% for the first three months of this year, compared to the same period of one year ago.
This is the second consequent year that tax offices are facing lower figures with large businesses, although in 2012 the plunge was lower. According to the law, all companies that have a turnaround larger than 8 million ALL annually are obliged to pay income tax.
The shrinking of this category, which is the most important for the budget and employment, is related to the difficult economic situation.
The crisis has obliged many enterprises to stop their activities, especially in construction, production and commerce. The construction figures show that the number of lucrative businesses has decreased with more than 15% in two years.
Some of them have closed while others, although active, have had negative balances.
The only sector that has increased is that of services, with a series of foreign companies coming and benefiting from the cheap labor force in Albania.
