Lazarat remains a problematic center of marijuana cultivation in
Albania, enriched by parcels even in the mountainous areas of Shkoder,
Tirana and Vlore, on properties owned by no one.
The Italian authorities, after a monitoring mission from the air say that 900 tons cannabis are produced from this village each year.
“The most problematic areas are in Vlore, Shkoder, Gjirokaster, Tirana and Durres. There are small surfaces far from residential areas, and mainy in deep mountainous sites. As regards the authors, most of them have moved from their houses and have started this criminal activity in other areas, using the friendship they had with the highlanders. 108 cases have been identified so far, with 14.772 of narcotic plants eliminated. 36 citizens have been taken under custody, 23 have been arrested, 3 are being processed in a free state and 10 are on the run”, declared the General Chief of Police, Hysni Burgaj.
The first person in charge of the Albanian police declared that they will continue the action against the cultivation of marijuana in every area identified by the flying mission.
