The Parliamentary Commission of Economy approved a new law, proposed by
the Ministry of Finances, which aims to strengthen the supervision on
private banks.

The law that was voted with consensus by all parties provides the creation of bridge banks that keeps private banks from failing.

When a private bank has financial problems, Bank of Albania might decide its temporary division.

Healthy assets and obligations are transferred to a temporary bank, called a bridge bank, which is administered by Bank of Albania. The problematic part of the assets goes for liquidation.

This way, the bank will be able to continue its activity until a final resolution that might be its sale.

Besides this changes, the new law for banks foresees the removal of the elctronic money monopoly, leaving space to other institutions, besides banks, to offer the service of electronic services.
