Law amend for drugs, personal use quantity punished with fine

The amendments of the Criminal Law, proposed by the Ministry of
Interior, come due to the problems created with the implementation of
drug related laws.

The Ministry proposes that drug possession for personal use should be considered as administrative infringement, not a criminal offense, similar as in many European countries.

The draft says that 70% of drug consumers caught by the police are not prosecuted criminally as the current law provides. That’s why, the quantity that is considered small, should have a lower punishment.

As for the cultivation of cannabis, the higher the quantity of plants, the harsher the punishment.

The anti-mafia lw for investigating assets should also change, according to the Ministry, and include the cultivation of cannabis or the funding of this activity.

The amends, according to the Ministry, should be followed by a transitory article that will sanction the implementation of the previous articles until the new law for personal use enters in effect.
