Last parade as “Kosovo Security Forces”

Members of the Kosovo Security Forces paraded for the last time with the name and mission that they have had so far.

Thousands of citizens gathered on the Zahir Pajaziti square to celebrate the independence day. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, warned that Kosovo will soon found its own armed forces.

He added that the Armed Forces of Kosovo will have a new mandate, new structure and size, able to protect the territorial integrity of Kosovo.

The United States Ambassador to Prishtina, Tracey An Jacobson, read the telegram of President Barack Obama, sent to President Atifete Jahjaga.

The messages expresses America’s determination to support Kosovo, and the significance of reviewing the security sector, so that the Kosovo Special forces deepen their relations with the Euro-Atlantic structure. It is also important having a fair process in the next elections.

In this manifestation were missing the Parliament Speaker, Jakup Krasniqi, and the leaders of three opposition forces, Isa Mustafa, Albin Kurti and Ramush Haradinaj.

Present among the cabinet members were the former President of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu, and the Head of the Parliamentary Group of LDK, Ismet Beqiri. For FSK and the Kosovo Police, President Atifete Jahjaga reminded that these are two of the most credible institutions for the Albanian citizens.

The functionality of the Kosovo Security Forces was regulated through the Constitution. Its mission was quick reaction operations and helping civil authorities in response to natural disasters and other emergencies, such as search and rescue missions, eliminating explosive objects, cleaning hazardous elements and other humanitarian duties.

Based on article 126 of the Constitution, the KSF serves as a National Security Force for the Republic of Kosovo, and it can send its members outside the country, in full accordance with its international responsibilities.

FSK has 2500 active members in uniforms and 800 members of the reserve formation. 1400 officers and soldiers have been recruited from the former defensive troops.
