The Ministry of Energy revoked the concession of KURUM for the chrome
mine in Kalimash, the one in Vllaha, and the two chrome and copper
enrichment factories in Kalimash and Golaj.

Top Channel has the official document of the termination for the second most important concession of the mining industry.

The verdict dated October 20th, says that the cause was that KURUM, together with their Chinese partners, “Sichuan Jiannanchun International Group Ltd”, have not met the agreement requirements.

The document quotes several violations of the concessionary, such as the obligatory investment plan, production as based on the agreement, and the annual fee of 303.000 EUR.

For these reasons, the Ministry decided to terminate the agreement and return these properties under the government. The Kalimashi mine is the second biggest in the country, after the one of Bulqize. Official evaluations note that the Chrome reserves in this mine mount up to 7.9 million tons, with a 25% clarity.

The Kalimashi mining complex was exploited during the communist regime, but in the ‘90s, due to its long distance from the sea ports, and after the dropped price of chrome in international markets, the mining has filed bankruptcy several times. In 2000, the government kept the complex under conservation until 2010, when it was given to the union of KURUM and Sichuan.
