The Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, asked the Parliament Members of
the Media Commission to merge the Center of Projects and change the
name of the modern theater, to call it “Experimental theater”.
“We have two structures with two different administrations, without a clear understanding of competences. Simply two offices that are money without criteria, without dates, without deadlines and above all, without a monitoring report, which is a legal obligation for every artistic project. We don’t have any statistics at the Ministry about the projects that have been financed”, Kumbaro declared.
The Chairman of the Commission, Genc Pollo, declared that the government has chosen centralization and is administering the funds to be given to competitors. He added that if there is a bad functioning and that all parties should be heard, and all reports should be read.
Kumbaro declared that the managers of this center have abused with the state budget, while the opposition Parliament Members declared that this center would bring centralization.
The Parliament Members of the Media Commission and Education have heard all interest groups regarding the law amends for art and culture.
Pollo defends piracy?!
The meeting of the Media Commission started with a speech of Chairman Genc Pollo, supported by another Parliament Member of the Democratic Party, Luciano Boci, in support of the Audiovisual Media Authority leader, Endira Bushati, who claimed that she has been threatened by the DigitAlb director after she responded to the complaints made by the national televisions, Top Channel, Klan and the DigitAlb platform, who accused AMA of not taking actions against TV piracy.
The Vice Chairman, Alfred Peza, declared that the other Parliament Members of the Commission have said that this issue is up to the justice, and no comments should be allowed to make it political.
All communications of the DigitAlb director with Mrs.Bushati have focused on respecting the law, including the most recent communication, where the determination expressed by Mr.Jaho for implementing the law in the competent institutions, was a determination expressed even towards Mrs.Bushati, since for the past five years she has not implemented the law. This determination has been considered as a threat by Mrs.Bushati. However, it will be up to competent institutions to decide for verifying the claims.
On the other hand, Mr.Pollo did not speak about the core of the problem, TV piracy. Not only Top Channel, but also other televisions and platforms, have complained to AMA and the Media Commission by expressing their concerns regarding TV piracy.
The answer to piracy by state institutions, with Mr.Pollo and Mrs.Bushati being part of it, has never been given. Mr.Pollo, as part of the government for several years, has promised in front of international institutions to implement the law on piracy, since the copyrights that are being violated today by cable televisions and the televisions licensed by Mrs.Bushati are a condition for Albania’s European Union integration.
