Kukes, the town without water

The 3.5 million EUR invested for the construction of the Kukes aqueduct
seem to have gone in vain, since the citizens have no water.

The construction started years ago and the works were delayed for so long that enabled central and local authorities to even make a campaign. Today, when the construction is over, Kukes still doesn’t have water.

Residents are convinced that the funds have been stolen. “If the investment is over and we have no water, then there is something wrong”, one resident says.

“Our village has no water. There have been investments, the government has given money, but we don’t know where that money is”, another one says.

The construction started in 2009 as an electoral promise, but the government doesn’t accept the aqueduct.

“There is a negligence of the Minister, the General Aqueduct Directory for the solution of this problem. We have made efforts with the prefect, but we have not been able to find common ground. This is the problem of the Kukes citizens, and I don’t care about the political stances”, declared the Mayor of Kukes, Hasan Halilaj.

The problems with this aqueduct are so visible, that the low quality of pipes has caused lands to get flooded.
