The Kukes Municipal Council asked the Prime Minister and Ministry of
Transportation to exclude Kukes citizens and businesses from paying the
maintenance toll tax.
“The declaration is clear. The fee should not apply for the Kukes District citizens. It is unacceptable, since our area is also the poorest in Albania”, said Lavdrim Shehu, Chairman of the Kukes Municipal Council.
The Ministry of Transportation decided a few days ago that the Nation’s Road should be given in concession.
This means that to go through this highway, Kukes citizens must pay five Euros. Experts and citizens have strongly opposed the decision, even the Mayor, Bashkim Shehu.
