The European MP, Eduard Kukan, joined the other reactions against the
violence emerging from the opposition’s protest on December 8th in
Tirana, which ended in violence.
Kukan says in his declaration that it is a legitimate right of citizens in all democratic societies to protest and express their concerns for the problems of the country.
But he said that this should be done peacefully, especially in situations with potential political tension.
“The Democratic Institutions also must prepare the right terrain for political battles. It is a role and responsibility of the opposition to challenge and control the government in Parliament. Albania is facing important challenges, which require cooperation and constructive debate between the political parties. For this reason I encourage the Albanian politicians to continue this dialogue as the best way through which to serve citizens and get Albania closer to the EU”, Kukan said.
