The representative of the European Delegation for Albania, Eduard Kukan,
considered the situation in Macedonia as complicated and potentially
dangerous.
In an interview for Top Channel, his advise for Tirana was to operate carefully.
TCH: After the events in Kumanova, you are one of the Parliament Members involved in the negotiations with Macedonia. What do you think about the progress of this process so far? Do you expect Mr.Gruevski to resign within this month? To you expect turmoil or worse?
Eduard Kukan: There are easy questions, but no easy answers for the situation in Macedonia. It is very complicated and potentially dangerous. This is something to take in consideration when we deal with this country. You have seen the European Institutions, the Parliament the Commission, Commissioner Hahn and three MPs are working with this, to intermediate contacts and negotiations between both parties, based on the June 2nd agreement. I cannot make any prediction on this situation, because, as you have seen in the last meeting, there has been no result after Skopje. I think we are back to the June 2nd agreement which engages and makes responsible the political leaders through this agreement. This agreement is alive and valid. We are considering a process from the European institutions on how to treat this difficult situation any further, so, let’s wait.
TCH: Is there any advice for Tirana, or any observation to the Albanian diplomacy regarding the behavior of Macedonia?
Eduard Kukan: I think that the Albanian citizens understand the sensibility of the situation. “Careful” is the right word for how they should behave.
