Hashim Thaci has resigned as President of the Republic of Kosovo. His decision came after the war crimes indictment was communicated by the court in The Hague.
Thaçi stated in a press conference that he is keeping his promise that he will resign if the indictments are confirmed. The Specialized Chambers have confirmed the indictment against the President of Kosovo.
“A few moments ago I was informed that the pre-trial judge has confirmed the indictment against me, these are not easy moments for me and my family. I will work closely with justice and I am at the disposal of justice, I believe in the truth and the future of our state. I urge not to despair. I invite you to reflect on how much we have gained as a nation these three decades”, said Thaci.
After announcing his resignation from the presidency, Hashim Thaçi confirmed that this was not a farewell speech.
“In these new circumstances, I call on the political forces to stay strong. We must maintain the Euro-Atlantic orientation for a European Kosovo, a Kosovo in NATO, and in a permanent relationship with the USA “, added Thaci among others.
