The Parliament of Kosovo was unable to appoint the new Speaker and vice
speaker even after the consultative session that lasted only seven
minutes.
The candidate of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Arsim Bajrami, received only 44 out of 116 votes, 37 from his party and 7 from non-Serbian minorities.
The 61 MPs of the post-electoral coalition, LDK-AAK-NISMA-Vetevendosje voted against. The Serbian List MPs abstained. This forced Flora Brovina to implement the verdict of the Constitutional Court.
“Due to the insufficiency of votes for the PDK, which has the right to bring out a candidate for the Speaker, I am obliged to interrupt this session. The MPs will be notified in the next week. The secretary should follow the instructions of the Constitutional Court verdicts for interrupting the session”, Brovina declared.
Despite this blockage that has been confirmed in the Parliament of Kosovo, the Western diplomats have not intervened yet.
“The international community will not intervene. It is up to the representatives of the people of Kosovo to decide for their institutions. It is also up to the President to decide if she should intervene or not. We will not get involved”, says Ian Cliff, Ambassador of Great Britain in Kosovo.
The Constitutional Court verdicts says that the Parliament session must continue and only the biggest Parliamentary Group, that of the PDK, can propose the candidate for Speaker of the Parliament.
