Kosovo government agreed to allow Serbian trucks bringing humanitarian aids in Northern Kosovo.
The trucks were brought to Kosovo from the Serbian Red Cross, through the Jarinje border checkpoint. According to government officials, this allowance will only be temporary.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister Mimoza Kusari Lila, when a third independent party will reach the conclusion that there is no humanitarian crisis in Northern Kosovo, other aid will not be allowed.
Kosovo Government requested the International Red Cross and UN agencies to assess the situation.
“I reemphasize that we agreed today to allow five trucks with food aid. Today there is an exception, but in the future these trucks will not be allowed, if there is no humanitarian crisis. Humanitarian aid have nothing to do here, if there is no crisis”, Lila declared.
The declaration of the Deputy Prime Minister came after today’s government meeting, which the Prime Minister Thaçi gathered for the third time this week and where he repeated his government’s stance that there is no turning back from July 25th operations.
Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi met KFOR commander, Erhard Buhler, for clarifying the voices saying that he has reached an agreement with the Serbian negotiator, Borko Stefanovic.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Mimoza Kusari Lila explained that “this is not a written agreement, but only discussion points. Such an agreement doesn’t exist”, she added.
One of the draft-agreement clauses provides that only 3.5 t vehicles with humanitarian aid will be allowed, after being carefully checked and searched.
This decision was taken after Serbian officials declared that Northern Kosovo is experiencing a humanitarian crisis, which was strongly opposed by Kosovo officials.
However, the allowance of Serbian humanitarian aid was opposed by the Self-Determination Movement, as the third parliamentary force in the country.
“This shows that Kosovo is not present in the north, and that this can be done only by the Serbian institutions”, declared Shpend Ahmeti.
On the other hand, the other opposition parties did not give any comment, different to last week, when the entire political spectrum in Kosovo was united for supporting the government to extend its authority all over the country.
