Kosovo electricity line still blocked by Serbia

Serbia continues to block the power connection with Kosovo, but Albania
will ask the European Energy Transmission System to unblock the line,
now that the Albanian Transmission Operator has become the newest member
of the European network.

The 80 million EUR investment would start working if the European System would recognize the Kosovo operator after its detachment from Serbia.

“We don’t know what has been discussed or voted, since we have not been part of it. Being members, now we have the right to vote, or we can even initiative a request for resolving the problem, because that line must start operating”, said Engjell Zeqo, administrator of the Energy Transmission Operator.

The interconnection with Macedonia is another project that is expected to start after three years.

“We are evaluating the consulting companies, and the bid will be launched by the end of the year. We have received a 14 million EUR grant from the EU”, Zeqo said.

Albania may receive other similar funding, as part of the European Transmission Operator.

“We are part of Europe, to some extend. There will be 200 projects until 2030, with a value of 150 billion EUR, which will reduce the energy price from 1.5 to 0.5 Euroes. This will reduce the price and Albania will certainly benefit from this”, said the administrator of the Energy Transmission Operator.
