Kosovo citizens voted this Sunday for local elections, and different from expected, the results are not similar to the central elections of June 11th.
The Self-Determination, which was running very confidently in these elections, was unable to win a single municipality in the first round, but they will have to compete for seven in the runoffs, even for Kosovo’s capital, Prishtina, which was their stronghold.
Incumbent Prishtina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti, despite securing 44% of the votes, will have to face another round against Arban Abrashi of the LDK, who received 35% of the votes.
This situation is similar to that of 4 years ago, but this time against the Self Determination Movement. Abrashi has the support of PDK, AKR, AAK and some other parties which have united against the Self Determination.
LDK seems to have gained more votes than in the central elections of June 11th, winning four municipalities and having nine others in runoffs. PDK, on the other hand, has one just one and fights for 10 others in the runoffs. They have received the lowest result ever in Prishtina, with just 5.7% of the votes.
Haradinaj’s AAK is on the rise, which has won its two strongholds, Decan and Junik, while they will keep fighting for six other municipalities in the runoffs.
As for the total votes, LDK has received more than anyone, PDK is listed second, VV third and AAK fourth.
