Kosovar citizens celebrated the 20th anniversary of the NATO bombing of Serbian troops in 1998.

Roads were filled with US flags, while mural paintings thank NATO and the US and UK leaders of that time, Bill Clinton and Tony Blair.

“If it wasn’t for Bill Clinton, this country wouldn’t be independent and I wouldn’t be playing football with my friends”, said the 16-year-old Klinton Bajgora, whose parents named him after the US president.

20 years ago, NATO started the 78-day bombing campaign over Serbia, which forced their forces to withdrew from Kosovo.

The campaign ended a conflict that caused more than 13.000 victims, most of whom Kosovo Albanians.
