The cooperation between Kosovo and Albania in the energy field has
started to become concrete. Kosovo and Albania have brought to life an
agreement for establishing a joint energy market, with both countries
being one single trade area.
The Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri, and the Minister of Economic Development of Kosovo, Vlerand Staliveci, have formalized in Prishtina the establishing of the Directing Committee for the joint energy market and what the working groups have created.
“The joint work of this commission, which will be materialized with joint policies, might bring joint investments, as we discussed today, for allowing joint investments in Albania and kosovo”, declared Damian Gjiknuri, Minister of Energy and Industry.
“Everyone in Kosovo and Albania are aware about the importance of this agreement, the creation of a joint market in the energy sector, which has a special importance as a precondition for the economic development of Kosovo and Albania”, declared Blerand Stavileci, Minister of Economic Development.
The Albanian Minister of Energy met in Prishtina with Isa Mustafa, the Kosovo Prime Minister, with whom he discussed deepening the cooperation between the two countries.
After meeting with Mustafa, Gjiknuri and Staliveci visited the works of the 400 Kv interconnection between Kosovo and Albania. Minister Stavileci said that Kosovo has finalized one third of the works and the entire project is expected to be over by the end of the year.
Minister Gjiknuri said that Albania finalizes its part of the work in Spring 2016. After this, the energetic highway between the two countries will be functional.
