The Kosova Parliament elected this afternoon Albin Kurti as prime minister, heading a coalition government between his left wing Vetevendosje (Self-determination) and the centre-right LDK.
Kurti was elected with 66 votes in favour nearly four months after parliamentary elections were held on October 6.
In the session were present 76 MPs, after a number of opposition MPs walked out before the vote. In his address to the Assembly, Kurti stated that today was the day of the change Kosovo voted for at the October 6 polls.
Before the vote Kurti presented the priorities of his government mentioning generating new jobs and economic development. He detailed that his Government will have 15 ministries and 33 deputy ministers, which according to him, will have direct impact in reducing government’s expenses, releasing much needed funds for investments.
One of initiatives was the indictment for war crimes against Serbia. “We will enable the conviction for war crimes through the law on war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity. An Institute for War Crimes supporting their documentation will be established. The lawsuit will be prepared against Serbia at the International Court of Justice for crimes committed in Kosovo”, stated Kurti.
Kurti stated that he was ready to lead a dialogue for which there would be a comprehensive negotiation team.
In his governing program he mentioned that Kosovo’s budget would reach 3 billion euros, and the state would stimulate employment, and the continuation of normalization talks with Serbia.
Amongs other government priorities were reduction of public expenditure, the reduction in the number of the government ministers, promotion of employment and economic development, the establishment of sovereign fund, subsidizing of salaries for the private sector, protection of environment, water resources and improvement of air quality.
